Winchester - Model 70 - Extreme Tungsten MB - 25-06 Rem :

The look of the Tungsten Cerekote finish is extraordinary. And it is tough too. But that is just the start. This Model 70 has the addition of a Bell and Carlson synthetic stock with sculpted cheekpiece and an equally beautiful Charcoal gray textured finish. It is Model 70 for extreme conditions and for serious, tough hunts, where you need a rifle that can take the elements and maintain top performance. This rifle could be difficult to find, so talk to your dealer about ordering soon.

Other key features. Like all Model 70s today, it features the Pre-64 type claw extractor with Controlled Round Feeding so the cartridge may be easily withdrawn from the chamber at any point after it leaves the magazine. It also means that the cartridge base is grabbed by the claw as it leaves the magazine so it enters the chamber straight, in line. And don't forget that the cartridge feed lips are machined as part of the receiver for improved reliability in feeding. The classic Three-Position Safety offers both on safe and fire positions, plus a middle position that locks the firing pin yet still allows the bolt to be operated, providing a greater margin of safety when checking the chamber condition or unloading..

Features & Design

  • Bell and Carlson stock
  • Free-floating fluted stainless steel barrel
  • One-Piece bottom metal with steel floorplate
  • Two stainless steel sling swivel studs
  • Three position safety
  • MOA trigger system
  • Blade type ejector for full control ejection force
  • Pachmayr decelerator recoil pad

25-06 Remington

The .25-06 Remington had been a wildcat cartridge for half a century before being standardized by Remington in 1969. It is based on the .30-06 Springfield cartridge necked-down (case opening made narrower) to .257 inch caliber with no other changes. Nominal bullet diameter is 0.257 inches (6.53 mm) and bullet weights range from 75 to 120 grains (4.9 to 7.8 g).

Suggested Use

  • Deer (long range)
  • Black Bear (long range)
  • Sheep / Goat (long range)
  • Moose
  • Elk
  • Buffalo / Bison

Performance

The cartridge is capable of propelling a 117 grain (7.6 g) bullet at up to 3200 feet per second (980 m/s) and energy levels up to 2,500 ft lbf (3,400 J). Bullets lighter than 75 grains are available in .257" caliber, but were designed for the smaller .25-20 Winchester and .25-35 Winchester cartridges and are too lightly constructed for the high velocities of the .25-06.

The cartridge has less felt recoil than a 30-06 in a similar weight rifle, due to the lighter weight bullets used. Shooters who are recoil sensitive will find the recoil from the 25-06 bearable, but not pleasant enough to shoot all day long. This cartridge is not quite as powerful as the .257 Weatherby Magnum, usually running 200 to 300 ft/s (61 to 91 m/s). slower with a given bullet weight.

SAAMI pressure limit for the .25-06 is 63,000 PSI.
