Gunwerks Ammunition - 300 Win - 190gr - VLD :

Gunwerks ammunition is designed to yield top performance at long range. The VLD or BTHP design bullet has become very popular for long range hunting due to its unique terminal performance characteristics. The small meplat and copper nose exhibit a delayed expansion reaction allowing the bullet to penetrate several inches before expanding. With a simple copper jacket and lead core, once the bullet starts expanding, it really comes apart, creating massive wound cavities and devastating performance.

From bullets to powder and primers, every component and specification has been carefully selected to provide the ultimate performance for long range hunting ammunition. It is hand loaded one cartridge at a time with meticulous inspection and quality control. With a proper understanding of external and internal ballistics, our engineers have been able to increase downrange performance for all cartridges while keeping recoil at a minimum.

This ammo is designed specifically for Gunwerks rifles; however, it can perform very well in other rifles. Our ammo is loaded longer than most factory ammo, meaning cartridges may not fit in some factory box magazines. See COAL measurement to confirm fit with your rifle.

Berger Very Low Drag
The Berger VLD Hunting Bullet is one of the flattest shooting hunting bullets in the industry. VLD Hunting Bullets are identical in design to VLD Target bullets except utilize a thinner J4 Precision jacket for rapid expansion during game applications. VLD Hunting Bullets are designed to penetrate 2 to 3inch and then begin to expand and create a massive wound cavity up to 15inch. The hydrostatic shock causes most animals to drop immediately. VLD Hunting Bullets incoporate a secant ogive design which allows the bullet to experience less drag as it travels to the target. This reduced drag is why the VLD shoots flatter, experiences less wind-drift, and has a higher retained velocity than all others. A favorite load technique for the VLDs is touching the rifling for single-shot applications, although some rifles may prefer as much as .150 inch from the rifling. Berger VLD Hunting Bullets are extremely popular for long range hunting applications.

A valid firearms licence (FAC, PAL or POL) is required to purchase ammunition. It is our policy to sell ammunition only to persons 18 years of age or older, and in accordance with local, provincial and federal regulations. 300 Winchester Mag

The .300 Winchester Magnum (also known as .300 Win Mag or 300WM) (7.62x67mm) is a popular, belted, bottlenecked magnum rifle cartridge that was introduced by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1963 as a member of the family of Winchester Magnum cartridges. The .300 Winchester Magnum is a magnum cartridge designed to fit in a standard length action. It is based on the .375 H&H Magnum, which has been blown out, shortened, and necked down to accept a .30 caliber (7.62 mm) bullet.

The .300 Winchester is extremely versatile and has been adopted by a wide range of users including hunters, target shooters, military units, and law enforcement departments. Hunters found the cartridge to be an effective all-around choice with bullet options ranging from the flatter shooting 165 grain to the harder hitting 200+ grain selections available from the factory. The .300 Win Mag remains the most popular .30 caliber magnum with American hunters, despite being surpassed in performance by the more powerful .300 Weatherby Magnum and the newer .300 Remington Ultra Magnum. It is a popular selection for hunting moose, elk, and bighorn sheep as it can deliver better long range performance with better bullet weight than most other .30 caliber cartridges. Military and law enforcement departments adopted the cartridge for long range sniping and marksmanship. As a testament to its accuracy, since its introduction it has gone on to win several 1,000-yard (910 m) competitions

Suggested Use

  • Deer (long range)
  • Black Bear (long range)
  • Sheep / Goat (long range)
  • Moose
  • Elk

Performance

The Winchesters factory ammunition for the .300 Winchester Magnum is capable of 3,260 feet per second (990 m/s) with the 150-grain (9.7 g) bullet and 3,000 ft/s (910 m/s) with the 180-grain (12 g) bullet. The maximum point blank range for the 150 gr (9.7 g) bullet is 318 yards (291 m) yards when zeroed at 270 yards (250 m). The maximum point blank range for the 180 gr (12 g) bullet is 300 yards when zeroed at 254 yards (232 m). The ability to zero the .300 Winchester Magnum and shoot without hold over to 300 yards (270 m) makes the cartridge one of the flatter shooting cartridges.
